<!--StartFragment--> LEILA’S MESSAGE A breast cancer support group in your pocket. Why I wrote this book and why I put it online. “To know the road ahead, ask those coming back” (Chinese Proverb) The year 2000 promised to be such an exciting and memorable year. Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Life continued, the sun kept rising, and my normal life at peril became profoundly rewarding. After a year of fear and treatments, the crisis moved behind me. Beyond a small, weekly support group at the hospital I wanted to know others with breast cancer and get feedback to my many questions. The survival of others became my lifeline and hope. This is a book I would have wanted to have when newly diagnosed with breast cancer, and slowly the idea for it grew in my mind. I did not want to write just my own story. Responding to my invitation to participate in this book, 125 women generously wrote about their experience and replied to my questions. Through real-life experiences, breast cancer survivors shared user-friendly tips and brief personal quotes to give insight, hope and help to others. I discovered that this book became therapeutic to myself, to participants and to readers. It is a voice of many with brief glimpses into breast cancer journey of survivors celebrating good years and even decades of survival. Participants come from the U.S. and Canada with a few beyond. Their combined voice offers user-friendly, practical tips through selected personal memories. This variety in hundreds of bite-sized pieces became a useful keepsake gift to new patients embarking on the road of breast cancer. Many find this book comforting even when many years after breast cancer crisis are behind them. This title is perfect for any breast cancer related fundraising activities. Please contact us for details and quantity discounts. This is a personal support group in your pocket. I decided to put my book online so you get a good idea of the contents. You can surf freely through the chapters of interest, the tips, quotations, and the comments of choice. If you keep returning to these pages online, consider ordering a copy for your bedside or purse. Each chapter shows first a portion of my experience, then briefly stories from others. I divided the book into chronological chapters so it is easy to read first whatever is timely in your own journey. My heartfelt thanks to Lydie and Albert from www.mediatribe.net for putting this book online and making it easy to use. Please see the blog link on top right. The journey continues. I would love to hear from you. Please comment at the end of each chapter. I will publish selected comments. Best wishes from Leila “May the strength of three be in your journey.” (Irish Proverb) <!--EndFragment-->
