Skin cells to neurons

A new study could bypass a need for stem cells (Washington,  by Reuters,  reported in Gazette Montreal)  Ordinary mouse skin cells have been transformed into neurons.  This could eventually bypass the need for stem cells and greatly speeding up the field of regenerative medicine.  Just imagine one day to take a sample of your skin and turn it into a tailor-made tranplant to treat brain diseases such as Parkinson’s,  Alzheimer’s,  or heal damaged spinal cords.  The researchers also hope they can reprogram ordinary cells into other cell types to help replace damaged livers, treat diabetes and cancer with seemingly unlimited possibilities. Working behind scenes,  researchers are accomplishing miracles for us all.

In the meantime,  we should do whatever we can,  such as our monthly BSE.  It is a no-cost,  non-toxic,  non-invasive,  gentle way to know if something is wrong in your breasts such as a new lump.  Use cream while lying on your back in bed,  or soap in shower.  It takes minutes and becomes a habit.  Give yourself a rose for loving your breasts and checking them out.  No matter what the statistics or experts say,  I found my own cancer and would not have lived through it otherwise.  It was ten years ago. I lived to write a book about breast cancer,  and to see my three grandchildren,  and much more.
